Another new year!! 

I started this cybersecurity journey a year ago and have learned quite a bit. I have read books, studied, passed two cybersecurity certifications, and just continue to try to grow at this point. I want to try to get working in the cybersecurity space soon. While it is good to study, at a certain point being immersed in the tools and work helps your knowledge grow even more.

Got an email from the Tryhackme site and looks like they have a little advent cybersecurity event they call the Advent of Cyber! It is a little cyber adventure that takes you through different aspects of cybersecurity. It looks fun and will have to give it a try.

Finished up all the Advent of Cyber 2023 challenges!! 

It was pretty fun, they weren’t overly difficult but it does expose you to all types of cybersecurity tools and events that you would encounter in the field which makes it a useful resource. It also does it in a fun way and having the various people help out from around the cybersecurity community from YouTube to make content and help guide users through it was extremely helpful. 

Did get stuck a few times but having those videos there to give you a hint helped out or if the solution just wasn’t coming together it showed you the path you should have taken.

Still just working on Cybersecurity stuff. Mostly since I got my certifications have been a bit busier with current work stuff as they are teaching me new processes. So haven’t spent much time with my sites as of yet, but still try to work with them when I can

Posting might become more infrequent as I have been working on some other things. I will try to keep up with a few posts for the rest of this year as I have continued to work on cybersecurity items. Just may only have a few as I have started working on some other items related to my current job which is taking more time.

Took my test today and passed!!

So now I am two for two this year for certs. Pretty close to scoring again but I am glad I passed n the first attempt. Now it is time to see if I can get a job!!

Coming up on test day for my CompTIA CySA+ exam, I am doing pretty well on my practice tests so I think I am ready. I have my date set to September 22 so time to get in and get it done.

Well, I let my little free trial of VMware lapse so will have to rebuild my home lab. I will most likely switch it over to VirtualBox as it is a free option for now.

After working with Security Onion which is a type of SIEM, I was curious about vulnerability scanners as well. Wahzuh which is another free security-based SIEM. It also allows you to do a vulnerability scan of the system to see if there are endpoints on your network that are susceptible to certain types of vulnerabilities. This can aid you in making sure your systems are free from common security vulnerabilities. I managed to set it up to monitor my Ubuntu and Windows systems on my little home lab network.

Still working on a practice test for the CompTIA CySA+ exam. Starting to score pretty good on them so I should be ready for my test toward the end of this month. Just going to keep plugging away at them.
